Mr. Chandrashekhar Chawan , is an Optometrist, Ocularist and Ocular scientist. He was the first in the world to develop Soft Hydrogel Ocular Prosthesis in 1999.
He has many first to his credits, recently he has developed artificial cornea for the sufferers of Steven Johnson Syndrome. He is the first in India to provide relief to them.
Mr. Chawan was born and raised in Mumbai, studied B.Sc. in physics in 1985, Diploma in Optometry from Municipal Eye Hospital, Mumbai in 1984 and PhD in Optometric sciences from USA in 2001.
In 1996 he underwent training in Ocular Prosthesis at Moorefields Eye Hospital in London. He was the first fellow of Johnson & Johnson Gift of Sight International Fellowship program at the Boston Foundation For Sight, USA in 2003.
In 2007 he has set up Cornea & Oculoplasty Hospital called Shekhar Eye Research in Mumbai where many Cornea & Oculoplasty surgeons are offering their services to needy patients along with custom made Ocular Prosthesis & Scleral Lenses.
He was the Director Clinical Operations for Boston Foundation For Sight USA from 2004 till 2009

He offers Chandra Scleral lenses for Sever Ocular Surface Disease like Steven Johnson Syndrome, sever dry eye and Graft Vs Host Disease. He also manufactures contact lenses at Flexilens Pvt Ltd who makes world class lenses using CNC technology only of its kind in India. Synthetic Cornea, Custom Artificial Eyes, Chandra KC contact lenses for keratoconus, Orthokeratology, Scleral Lenses and Diamond Studded contact lenses a patented technology called La SER Eye Jewellry are his major contributions in the field of Ophthalmology in India. Authored two books on the subject of Ocular Prosthesis 1. Artificial Eye & 2. Ocular Prosthesis.

Till now he has trained and helped to set up Ocular Prosthesis units at several institutes like, Shankara Nethralaya, Chennai, L V Prasad Eye Institute Hyderabad, Sri Shankar Deva Nethralaya, Guwahati, Vittala Eye Hospital, NarayanaNethralaya Bangalore, Venu Eye Institute Delhi, Arvind Eye Institute Madurai, MGM Hospital Raipur, National University Hospital, Singapore and Price Sangokhla University Hospital Thailand etc.
